Character Name: Kalin'ong
Name meaning (if applicable): Sweet blossom
Species: Na'vi
Clan: Omaticaya
Occupation: Hunter/Warrior/Singer
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Eye color: Her eyes are a bright yellow with green tinges encircling the outside of her pupils.
Hair color: Black
Height: 9'2"
Weight: 320
Physical Description:
Kalin‘ong is the typical nine foot Na’vi. Her skin is a light blue with darker blue stripes covering her entire body. White dots that glow specifically at night, cover her body as well in the typical pattern for most Na’vi, except there is some variation; mostly swirls and loops. She is slender, but muscular thanks to her occupation as a hunter, and graceful.
Ears: Both her ears are pierced with each ear holding a dangly earring made up of white polished stone. Each earring holds three polished stones.
Hair: Her hair is black, and in tight braids, coming down to the end of her shoulder blades. Some of her braids are pulled back into a ponytail at the back of her head. Her queue hangs down lower; about mid thigh. Four braided strands of hair rest on the side of her face, two on each side. Purplish-pink and light blue beads are woven into a few of her braids.
Clothing: She wears the typical looking bra-like top and loincloth, with the top being made of bright pink and dark blue colored feathers. The bottom is made up of a teal blue colored cloth with a beaded waist containing purplish-pink and light blue beads. Two pink beaded arm bands wrap around both her upper arms with edging in brown leather. She wears a brown choker with yellow beading in different shapes sewn into the cloth. Her tail is also adorned with green cloth straps in a criss cross pattern from the base down to the middle. On her left wrist rests a few light blue colored bracelets made up of the same beading as the rest of her outfit. A string of dark blue feathers rests along her hips, dangling down over her upper thighs. Her legs from knee to ankle are covered in a circular criss cross pattern of purple strings. She carries both a bow and arrows, and a hunting knife along with a spear on occasions when hunting.
Background: Kalin’ong is well aware of the Sky People, and the RDA for what they have done to other Na’vi tribes. Mostly what she knows of them is from a young age where she was old enough to see what their destruction caused, but young enough not to understand it or them. It was also her parents who told her stories of what the Sky People had done to the Na'vi of Pandora. Her parents' scars of war were what reminded her of why those who came to Pandora were not to be trusted. The only exception to her rule of outsiders are evil and not to be trusted are the scientists. From what her parents had told her, the scientists were truly the only humans who wanted to learn and understand the Na'vi as well as Pandora.
Not everything was a horrible memory or lesson to be learned though, as growing up with the guidance of her parents made Kalin'ong's life rather blissful. When peace had finally reigned over all of Pandora, Kalin'ong was free to learn what the Na'vi had to teach her. She quickly took to hunting as though she had been doing it all of her life. There was not an animal on Pandora that was safe from her bow growing up. Of course she learned self control and the proper way to take down prey, but she was always a good shot with her bow. Even her brother was in awe of her skill.
Hunting wasn't her only talent though, as singing became a skill she picked up as she grew. Singing might have come naturally to her, but it took years of practice to fine tune the tones and sounds that came out of her mouth. Each word, phrase, and sound was etched into her memory by the clan's highest vocalist/historian/storyteller. Soon enough she was singing the songs of her people at each celebration and ceremony.
Life was good for Kalin'ong and her family until the day a thanator killed her older brother while out on a hunt. Instead of taking his ikran out for the hunt, he chose to use his pa'li despite the risks he was taking using the horse. Unfortunately for him and the rest of his family, when a herd of talioang (sturmbeests) decided to stampede, it was the thanator's chance to pick off one of the hunters. Sadly, it chose Kalin'ong's brother. Despite the number of hunters there at the time, it wasn't enough to finish off the thanator, who promptly took its kill off into the jungle. Not only did Kalin'ong see the attack, she had to tell her parents the news upon her return home.
Despite her seemingly upbeat and happy attitude to everyday life, that day in the woods haunted her. Her brother was never gone from her thoughts and constantly she thought that she could have saved him. She mourned his death like her parents, but never truly expressed how she felt. For years she kept her feelings about his death bottled up inside as if it were her duty to feel such guilt for his death almost as if she caused it. Even praying to Eywa didn't help, though it dulled some of the pain. Still, Kalin'ong went on with her life like she thought her brother would have wanted her to, trying to remain that happy, bubbly young child at heart that everyone knew her as.
Family: Father – Fkeu Atan (Mighty light)
Mother – Mawey Tirol (Calm song)
Brother – Txur Tukru (Strong spear) (Deceased)
Personality: Kalin’ong is a sweet girl who is kind to everyone she meets, including the scientists who want to learn, but she holds a bitter grudge against the military of the RDA. If she could mount a full scale attack against the military, she would. For a hunter, she’s a bit on the playful side, and wouldn’t mind running off into the jungle just to have some fun, but she does take her job very seriously when the time comes to hunt. She also takes the protection of the tribe and the people very seriously, and would lose her life to save others. In short, she still acts like a teenager in most cases, but when she sets her mind to something, nothing can deter her from her goal.
Abilities: A natural born hunter and a talented singer. She takes to the songs like they were written words. If she's not out playing or hunting in the woods, she's at the clan's center, taking in as many songs as her ears can listen to. Anything that has a history to it, whether it be through song or spoken word, Kalin'ong is right there absorbing it like a sponge. She absolutely loves to learn all there is about her people, and even the Sky People's time on Pandora.
Strengths: She's good with a bow both on the ground and on her ikran. She's also very kind and loyal to her clan; willing to die to save her people should the need arise. She's a bit of an optimistic or at least always smiling/laughing around everyone.
Weaknesses: She's often got her head in the clouds when she's got some alone time to herself, causing her to get into a bit of trouble now and then. She also acts younger than she is most of the time when alone or away from the clan, choosing to play childish games to pass the time. She tends to put up a facade when something is truly bothering her. Rather than talk it out, she'll smile and act as if nothing is wrong.
Ikran: Taw’ompin (Purple sky) is a pink and purple ikran with black accents. She gave Kalin'ong quite the fight, scraping her inner right arm with her teeth, leaving a bit of scarring behind when all was said and done. She's a bit of a daredevil, especially when Kalin'ong takes a ride on her back. Not that either of them mind since the aerobatic tricks through the air are quite exhilarating. She seems to be more well mannered and sweet than some other ikran, though if given the chance, she'll gladly frighten any Na'vi who happens upon her. Usually all is forgiven with a little bit of nuzzling on her part once she's given something to eat.
Pa'li: Lor’tanhi (beautiful star) is a blue and purple pa'li with yellow and green accents. He is a real sweetheart of a pa'li, and often doesn't like it when other Na'vi aside from Kalin'ong ride him. Usually if someone else is on him, he behaves irrationally; bucking and kicking to get them off. He does enjoy nuzzling or snorting his approval when he's paid attention to, and will do just about anything for treats. Kalin'ong helped to raise him with her parents from a very young age, so he trusts her more than anybody.
