Physical Description:
In short, he looks rather scruffy.
Living on his own for almost three years, Dahmanii is rather unkept and wild in appearance, and he never fails to frighten, or at least make someone gasp when first seen.
His hair is short and messy, as he hacks it off with a knife in an attempt to keep it out of his eyes (but this is usually futile, since he's useless when cutting hair), giving him a rather primitive look. His queue is wound in the usual tight braid, but he has some bright feathers braided into it, mostly to make himself feel better by wearing a color usually only allowed to higher rankings in Clan structures, but they are rather dirty and ripped.
His skin, though similar to the average Na'vi, is a noticeably darker hue of cyan, his stripes even darker than that. His markings are more whimsical, reminiscent of the earth tiger, swirling and forming spots occasionally on his body, though these are small and rarely noticeable. His tail is thickly banded with stripes, and the tuft on the tip is slightly longer than most. His bio-luminescent spots form a more striking pattern than most, the dots being more closely knit together and creating rather fluid, curving lines across his skin. His eyes are a little more orange than usual, and his eyes are slightly more slanted.
His clothing is very simple, usually wearing just a plain loincloth and an arm band with a quiver and sheath for his arrows and his hunting knife.
Background:
Dahmanii was born the son of the Olo'eyktan Zitahn and Ay'ta of the Altacanu'u clan, a clan hidden deep in the floating mountains, shunning the ways of normal and traditional Na'vi tribes.
The Altacanu'u clan was once proud and strong, as the Omaticaya are, a simple, happy group no more or less different than any other large clan. One day however, a hundred years or so, the large floating rock they had made a large camp on split without warning, and nearly the entire clan perished from the resulting fall to the planet below. The only survivors were those who were far enough from the crack (or those not present at the time) and those who's Ikran were swift enough to catch them from the deadly fall. They desperately tried to rebuild, and prayed to Eywa at all hours, but things only got worse. The rain stopped, the prey ran scarce and everything seemed to be falling around them. This went on for years, until the clan had had enough. Feeling abandoned and unwanted by their deity, they moved camp to a different floating mountain (this time much closer to the ground than the other, and very, very large) and renounced the ways of the guiding force, committing themselves to living by their own rules.
The result was sickening. Without the honor and peace that Eywa's guidance had enforced, the Altacanu'u became bloodthirsty and easily provoked, slaughtering all 'trespassers', be they male, female or juvenile, and dropped all connections to the other clans, refusing to conform (though it is still unknown as to why Eywa has allowed this). They lived like this for decades, the Na'vi of this clan becoming vicious and ruthless hunters, their skills honed in assassinating anyone who dared to come across them. Life within the clan itself was rather normal, though there were usually more arguments than usual, and it is to be noted that there is no Tsahik for this clan as they have shunned Eywa.
Dahmanii, the heir to the 'throne' of the Altacanu'u was raised proudly with his younger sister, Ka'ali, and both grew up as normally as any other young Na'vi would. Playful and full of life, the two were both fine young hunters and sources of entertainment for the older crowd, and the male had no greater dream than to become chief of his clan. Upon hearing that his title of Olo'eyktan would be potentially taken from him by an older member of the clan, Tormei, he immediately became rather serious with his training, beating our his adversary rather easily. As a result, he became the best hunter and fighter of his clan at a rather young age, and while he was physically ready to become a man, he was not mentally, and therefor still had to wait in order to attempt to choose an ikran.
His best friend, Amectuu, was older however, and had his own ikran and the two often studied the humans in their compound, though the elder of the two did so with immense hatred. His friend had fallen prey to the usual personality that cropped up around the idea that all human were scum and animals waiting to be butchered. Dahmanii on the other hand, found them very interesting with their technology and science, and while Amectuu wanted to kill every Avatar he saw, the younger found them amazing to look at. It impressed him that a species so small and delicate could thrive in these conditions.
On returning from one of these 'study sessions', they were greeted by the bodies of three Na'vi who were mercilessly killed by the clan. Amectuu, snorting with indifference, left, leaving Dahmanii to mourn over the bodies, telling their dead ears that Eywa would avenge them. He was different from his kin in more ways than one, but the most notable difference was his faith in Eywa. Though no one knew, it was obvious that what his clan was doing was disturbing him deeply, and he often sought the help of the guiding force in times like these. After burying the bodies, he returned to camp to find that it was his sister who had killed them, though she had literally been made to do it by Tormei. In deep shock, Ka'ali could hardly speak, and her older brother went after the other Na'vi, half strangling him before his mother intervened, telling him that this was simply the way things were and reminding him of the first time he himself had had to kill.
A few months passed and Ka'ali decided it was best if she didn't leave the village so that she could avoid things like that again, and Dahmanii agreed, understanding exactly what his sister was going through. At some point, when Dahmanii decided to visit the human compound again, he discovered two Avatars, and though he was momentarily frightened at what they might do to him, he made contact and quickly befriended the creatures, realizing that they weren't so different after all. They taught him the basics of their language so that he could communicate with other humans should he ever need to, and he taught them things of the clans and helped them to learn the ways of the forest.
Amectuu was starting to notice his best friends absence, as Dahmanii would often spend the entire day listening to the humans stories, and decided to follow the heir onto the maingrounds. Upon finding out that Dahmanii had befriended humans, he raged and attempted to kill them. The younger male however, the best and most skilled of most of the men, quickly defended his new comrades and in an act that chilled himself to the core, severed Amectuu's queue, nearly killing him in the process. The humans escaped and fled hastily, leaving the two Na'vi on the ground below.
Not knowing what to do with himself, Dahmanii left Amectuu, fleeing back to the camp. On the way however, he noticed a pregnant Palulukan stalking a herd of Angtsìk, and was immediately alarmed - the creatures were near the floating mountain, and dangerously close to the areas in which the clan foraged for food. In an attempt to prevent a stampede, Dahmanii called to the Palulukan, but failed and simply succeeded scaring the large Angtsìk herd straight towards the area he had been trying to divert them from. He chased after them, trying to change their course, but there was nothing he could do - they rammed their way through, injuring a few, but killing only one.
Eywa had avenged the three dead Na'vi. Ka'ali lay dead on the ground after receiving a lethal knock to the head.
Moments after discovering the body, Amectuu arrived. He had been spotted by an aerial hunter and had been brought back to the village, heavily wounded but still breathing. When Zitahn heard of what his son had done to the Na'vi, he was disgraced and infuriated, and after hearing that Dahmanii had been spotted chasing the Angtsìk herd toward the village, he lashed out, overcome with grief. He called his son a murderer, telling him that it was his fault Ka'ali was dead and that he would never become a man. After a moment of silence, the leader exiled his son, taking his weapons and any decorative garments he had been wearing. Zitahn then, in a moment of fury, ordered a few warriors to kill him.
Dahmanii, escaping his pursuers with a few cuts and a chunk taken out of his ear, the disgraced heir left, not stopping until he was a few days walk from the base of where the floating mountain met the maingrounds. After grieving the loss of his sister and his family, he slowly dragged himself through the thick jungle, barely living.
About a month later, he was scared awake by a horrible screeching noise. Cautiously approaching, he saw that it was a Palulukan giving birth, though something was clearly wrong. He quickly identified the Palulukan as the one who had been stalking the Angtsìk the day he was exiled and for a moment, thought of leaving her. But, as she screamed again, he felt his heart clench and he scrambled to help her. Unfortunately, it was too late for her, and while her cub was born healthy, she passed into the arms of Eywa. Covered in blood and awkwardly holding a newborn Palulukan, Dahmanii looked around, in shock, then down at the cub. He knew he should kill it right then - it couldn't survive without it's mother - but he just couldn't. Instead he raised the small cub, naming it Tanku'ur and bonding with it when it was old enough.
He now resides somewhere in the jungle, and while rather close to the Omaticaya, he has never once crossed paths with any of them. He lives just out of range, and is usually simply mistaken for one of the people. He has a deep yearning to join, though he is afraid that they will think of him as a monster if they found out that he severed the queue of another, a crime which is intolerable amongst Na'vi. He also fears for Tanku'ur's safety, nervous that the people will mistake him for a feral beast.
Personality: Though he is very hard to understand at times and very standoffish and moody, he really is very kind. He simply has far too many walls for one person to handle all at once, and he tends to get a little touchy at the subject of clan, not wanting to tell anyone what happened to him or where he came from. He can be very harsh if irked, but this is simply to deter anyone from becoming attached to him or likewise, as he has abandonment issues. He does not like to be alone, but sometimes finds the company of other natives to be incredibly complex and 'busy', something he is unused to after spending so much time with the animals.
Under all that rough exterior is a very sweet, caring man. He dislikes seeing anyone in pain or saddened, and if given the chance, will help anyone he sees suffering.
Abilities: Very skilled in archery and is very wickedly gifted with the uses of a blade, with the exception of his hair.
Strengths: Extremely good at taming and bonding with the fauna, Dahmanii has made many 'friends' in the forests of Pandora. No stranger to the creatures that thrive in his neck of the woods he tends to be able to communicate with them effectively through simple body language. He is also a very skilled tracker and hunter, having lived with no contact with others, these skills are honed very finely.
Weaknesses: He is quite a horrible healer, and as a result has quite a few nasty scars that could have been prevented. He is also very socially awkward from being on his own for so long, and he finds it very hard to understand the thoughts behind certain actions (the fauna he is used to being in contact with are all very simple minded and possess no abilities for certain feelings). He also has a fondness for children - one small child can melt his heart and bring out the soft side of this otherwise tough character.
Palulukan: Tanku'ur is a rather shy Palulukan from being raised by a Na'vi, and while he is a fearsome predator, he is very understanding and does not see Na'vi as foodstuffs, but as kin. He is scared of adult Na'vi, as he has had close encounters with them which resulted in his being injured, though he would never think of attacking one. He enjoys hunting with his partner and loves to be scratched behind his sensory quills, often grumbling his appreciation to anyone who is brave enough to do so.
